How to plan your guinea pig’s diet

Guinea pigs are the most gentle and docile rodents, which makes them popular as pets. Contrary to popular belief, feeding them store bought pellets is not enough for your guinea pig’s nutrition. Check out our guide to know how to plan your guinea pig’s diet.
Guinea pigs need an unlimited amount of Timothy Hay or Orchard Grass Hay every day, at all times. If your pig is under 6 months old, they should be given plenty of Alfafa Hay. Hay makes up about 80% of their diet and is very crucial to their dental and digestive health. The next 15% is made up of fresh leafy vegetables, and the last 5% constitutes of store bought pellets.
Here are vegetables you can feed everyday: (1 cup per pig)
Cilantro
Spinach
Romaine Lettuce
Kale
Parsley
Here are vegetables that you should give daily but sparingly: (High vitamin C content)
Red/Green peppers
Broccoli
Tomatoes
